Ron Hynes was nominated for "Best Singer - Contemporary" and "Best Songwriter" for the 2006 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
At the 2006 MusicNL awards, Ron Hynes won three awards: Entertainer Of The Year, Songwriter Of The Year, and Folk/Roots Artist Of The Year.

Hynes is a stirring collection of fourteen soul-baring
songs, born of his own life experience. This latest work
from the oft described "songwriting master",
features eleven brand new compositions along with a fresh
take on three fan favorites. The album was recorded and
produced by Paul Mills at The Millstream
in Toronto and includes four new "live" tracks
recorded at the LSPU Hall in St. John's, Newfoundland. The self-titled Ron Hynes CD marks his seventh solo album in a songwriting/performing career that spans more than thirty years and is his second release on the Borealis Records label. Ron Hynes was produced and arranged by Paul Mills, (who also produced Ron\rquote s multi award-winning Get Back Change in 2003. Some of the finest musicians in the country were brought together for this new project including Dennis Pendrith (acoustic bass), Curly Boy Stubbs aka Paul Mills (second guitar), Keith Glass (electric guitar), Burke Carroll (pedal steel), Al Cross (drums, percussion), Tom Leighton (piano), Don Reed (fiddle), Anne Lindsay (fiddle) and Wendy Solomon (cello). Harmony vocals are beautifully handled by Neil Donell, Emilie Barlow and Rique Franks with a guest appearance by Cindy Church. Ron Hynes is a five-time ECMA winner, a five-time Peoples' Choice winner, a Genie Award winner and a past Juno and CCMA nominee. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from Memorial University, was recipient of the Arts Achievement Award from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council in 2004, and has garnered numerous awards from MusicNL. Best known for his folk classic Sonny's Dream, Ron's songs have been covered by dozens of artists around the world including Emmy Lou Harris, Christy Moore, Mary Black, Denny Doherty, Valdy, Terry Kelly, Shaye, The Cottars and many more. Ron Hynes celebrated the launch of his first songbook - Songs of Ron Hynes Volume 1 - with an in store book signing on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 7:00pm at Chapters Books in his hometown of St. Johns, Newfoundland.
Songs Of Ron Hynes Volume 1, published by Vinland Music, features twenty-six Ron Hynes songs including Atlantic Blue, St. Johns Waltz, Leaving On The Evening Tide, Godspeed and his most well known work - Sonnys Dream. The songbook also contains historical notes on each song by the author. All songs are arranged for vocal and guitar.
Singer songwriter Ron Hynes has written hundreds of songs during a career that spans more than thirty years, with six full-length solo albums and numerous collaborative recordings to his credit. His current CD Get Back Change (Borealis/Koch) earned the 2004 East Coast Music Award for Country Recording of The Year and Album Of The Year. Ron Hynes is a five-time East Coast Music Award winner, a Genie Award winner, a past JUNO and CCMA nominee, recipient of the prestigious Arts Achievement Award from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, many awards from MusicNL and holds an Honorary Doctorate from Memorial University for his songwriting and contribution to the culture of his beloved home province of Newfoundland. Ron Hynes was a big winner at this year's ECMA's which were held in St. John's from Feb. 12 -15. Ron won for Factor Album Of The Year and Country Recording Of The Year, for his May 2003 release Get Back Change on the Borealis label. Newfoundland born singer songwriter Ron Hynes is heading west next week, touring in support of his latest CD Get Back Change (Borealis/Festival). Hynes will make stops in Yellowknife (Jan.15&16), Edmonton (Jan.17), Athabasca (Jan.18), Calgary (Jan.20 & 21), Vancouver (Jan.22), Duncan (Jan. 23), Gabriola Island (Jan.24), Victoria (Jan. 25) and Salt Spring Island (Jan.26), before hopping a plane back to St. John's Newfoundland for the Feb. 12- 15, East Coast Music Awards.Nominated for two ECMA's - Factor Album Of The Year and Country Recording Of The Year, for his May 2003 release Get Back Change, and boasting a songwriting career that spans more than three decades, Ron Hynes has also been selected to perform in the much coveted Songwriters Circle at the ECMA's.
